Typeface

A co-ordinated set of letter designs, making a complete alphabet, and generally intended to be made into a font for printing or use on screen.

Note that the term font is often used interchangeably with typeface, much to the annoyance of some typography experts. However, despite what may be asserted above, no definitions have yet successfully distinguished the two. For example, in a typeface designed entirely using a design program such as Fontographer, it's impossible to say for sure where exactly is the 'typeface': In the designer's mind? Implicitly in the mathematical curves that are represented in the font file? On the pages printed out? On the screen?
