Template:Infobox shopping mall Liberty Fair Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in Martinsville, Virginia. Opened in 1989, it features Belk, Sears, Kroger, OfficeMax, and JC's 5 Star Outlet, an outlet store owned by J. C. Penney, and one vacant anchor space slated to become Marshalls.

History[edit | edit source]

Developers Diversified Realty built the mall in 1989. Its original anchor stores were J. C. Penney, Sears, Walmart, and Leggett,[1] a division of Belk which had been in Martinsville since 1930.[2]

By 1997, the Walmart store had relocated. The space became OfficeMax, Kroger, and Goody's.[3][4] Goody's closed in 2009.[5]

In May 2012, Hull Storey Gibson bought the mall from Developers Diversified Realty.[6] J. C. Penney, whose store was converted to an outlet store in 1999, was re-branded by the company as JC's 5 Star Outlet that same month.[7]

The closing of the Sears store was announced in late 2012.[8] RadioShack and The Pierced Ear moved out in late 2013, while a Chick-fil-A restaurant closed. All three of these stores were original tenants. Hull Storey Gibson also confirmed that Marshalls would be moving into the space vacated by Goody's.[9] J. C. Penney announced the closure of all of its outlet stores in October 2013, including the Martinsville location.[10]
