The first Asian immigrants to arrived in Brazil were a small number of Chinese people (3 thousands), during the colonial period. However, signicant immigration from Asia to Brazil started in the late XIX century, when immigration from Lebanon and Syria became important.

Untill the 1950's, more than 250 thousands Japanese immigrated to Brazil. Nowadays, the Japanese-Brazilian population is stimated in 1.5 million people. It is, by far, the largest ethnic Japanese population outside of Japan.

Other east Asian groups are also significant in Brazil. The Korean-Brazilian population is stimated to be over 150 thousands people, and the Chinese Brazilian population around 200 thousands.
