'Flow 187' (born 'Robert B Roots') is an American rapper from Queens, New York City. Flow 187 is a Cuban - Guyanese - American rapper, motivational speaker, author, famous photographer and record producer.[1]

Musical career[edit | edit source]

After moving to Atlanta, Robert Roots established an internal recording studio to record local talent in Atlanta, Georgia. He received recognition for his mixtape "Lamborghini Dreams", which began in 2013. After the success of that release, he gained more attention with the release of his first studio album, "The WAVE", on May 4, 2018.[2] His initial career was strongly influenced by the rapping of the south and west coast with self-tuned harmonics, 808 bass and melodic trap instruments. This initial work is fragmented with a handful of recordings on DatPiff, YouTube and SoundCloud. In 2016, Robert Roots began working with OG HoodRich, HoodRich Entertainment as a cameraman and musical artist.[3] In an effort to publicize his presence and music worldwide, Flow187 left most of his songs on SoundCloud, Instagram, where he currently has more than 200,000 followers.[4]

Personal life[edit | edit source]

Flow 187 was born in Queens, New York and raised in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Resident in Los Angeles, California, Roots first became involved in music at the age of 12. At age 15, Robert Roots was expelled from school and charged with a felony for having a pocket knife in his jacket while on school property.[5]Sealed court records show that the case against him was dismissed due to police misconduct and an illegal search and seizure. After graduating from a different high school, Robert began writing a book to share with other young people about personal responsibility, overcoming obstacles and how to deal with peer pressure.[6]This book was finally published and titled "Falling isn't Failing."[7]

Books[edit | edit source]

Robert Roots wrote his first book, Falling Isn't Failing, to empower youth and young adults. Robert Roots is widely regarded as one of the most dynamic speakers emerging from his current generation. Falling Isn't Failing, written autobiographically, details his challenges at school, altercations with gangs, going back to school, going to jail and experiencing his parents' divorce.[8]
