Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is an upcoming stealth based video game collection developed by Kojima Productions and Bluepoint Games (the creator of the God of War Collection & the upcoming Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection), and will be published by Konami for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The collection contains High-definition ports of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is slated for an early November release in 2011.

Development[edit | edit source]

News of the HD collection was first announced and confirmed in Konami’s pre-E3 conference by series creator, Hideo Kojima. Through and advertisement created by Mega64, it was revealed that the that the PlayStation 3 version of the collection would be able to make use of their "Transfarring" service, a service which allows PlayStation Portable owners to transfer saved games from the handheld to the PlayStation 3 and back, thus allowing owners to continue their games on the go. Xbox 360 owners however won’t be able to use this feature for obvious reasons. The advertisement states that all three games will be playable in 1080p and concluding that the collection would be released for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Despite Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker being specifically designed for the PlayStation Portable, the controls will be adapted for the more sophisticated DualShock controller and Xbox 360 Controller.

In a recent Twitter post, Hideo Kojima has stated that the HD version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will feature re-recorded voice work and that re-recording is currently in progress. However, it is unclear whether Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty will also be receiving new voice work. It is also unclear whether the statement refers to the English voice work, the Japanese voice work, or both.

As well as re-recorded audio, Hideo Kojima has also confirmed through Twitter that Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will run at 60 frames per second in HD. Kojima has already confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater would run at 60 frames per second, originally the PS2 version was supposed to fun at 60 frames per second but due to the "collision detection and jungle visuals," they were forced to keep it to 30.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty originally ran at 60 frames per second when it was first released in 2001, so it'll remain at 60 frames per second but will still receive a visual touch-up.

So far, only the HD version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker has been allowed to be shown at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2011 in June, but is has been confirmed that the complete collection will be shown at this year’s Tokyo Game Show in September, allowing attendees to try out the whole collection.
